The Oroville Dam reservoir reached the spillway gates at a level of 813 feet this afternoon. The state and federal government spent over $2 billion on replacing the failed spillway from the February 12, 2017 incident which is now seen leaking badly.

The incident of February 12, 2017 forced 180,000 people from their homes in Butte, Sutter and Yuba Counties and set the stage for what almost was the nation’s largest lose of life incident had the dam failed. The dam did not fail due to the the reaction of the Butte County Sheriff who forced the California State Department of Water Resources to open the damaged spillway gates.
