Bill Clinton expected to be released from hospital Sunday

Former President Bill Clinton is expected to be released from a California hospital Sunday after five days of treatment for a urological infection, a spokesman said on Saturday evening.

Clinton, 75, will spend one more night at UC Irvine Medical Center on Saturday night where he is making “excellent progress” and will continue to receive intravenous antibiotics before his expected discharge Sunday, Clinton spokesman Angel Ureña said.

“He is in great spirits and has been spending time with family, catching up with friends, and watching college football,” Ureña said.

“He is deeply grateful for the excellent care he continues to receive and thankful for the many well-wishers who have sent kind words to him and his family. He’s looking forward to getting home very soon.”

The former commander-in-chief was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday for a reported urinary tract infection that had spread throughout his body, however he never went into septic shock, a potentially life-threatening condition.

A hospital aide told The Associated Press that Clinton was in an intensive care section of the hospital but wasn’t receiving ICU care.

On Saturday, he was visited by his wife and former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton along with their daughter Chelsea, her husband Marc Mezvinsky and secret service agents.

President Joe Biden has said that he believes Clinton is doing well, and said he believed he would be released on Saturday or Sunday.

“He’s not in any serious condition,” the president said Friday at a University of Connecticut event. “He is getting out shortly, as I understand it. Whether that’s tomorrow or the next day, I don’t know.”

“President Clinton is continuing to receive treatment for an infection at UC Irvine Medical Center,” Clinton spokesman Angel Urena tweeted Friday evening. “All health indicators are trending in the right direction, including his white blood count, which has decreased significantly. In order to receive further IV antibiotics,  he will remain in the hospital overnight.”
