UPDATED: Oroville Dam: Unexpected Releases

The California Department of Water Resources can’t seem to decide whether or not to release water down the Oroville Dam’s newly constructed spillway. At 8:15 am Pacific time gates 4. 5, 6 and 8 appeared to open unexpectedly. Video provided by the DWR confirms the release and men are seen scrambling around the bridge deck in response.

As the water rushes onto the deck prearranged diversion sand bags and various signs are seen being washed down the spillway. Not very well seen are several other large containers, scaffolding, a crane and lift. In the past when the DWR announced they were going to use the spillway all items were removed.
