Press NOT Allowed at Oroville

In a new development to come to light the Department of Water Resources is now prohibiting access to Oroville Dam. Over the last 3 months several reporters have been denied press credentials even though they were invited to obtain credentials in anticipation of the first use of the rebuilt spillway on April 2, 2019.

Now we’re getting new reports from additional members of the press that the DWR is now preventing the media from reporting from the actual dam site in Oroville. The press is being denied access to the entire Oroville Dam area that is “under construction”.

This is now a new development since the closure of the main spillway following the reopening on April 2, 2019 in which the DWR was issuing press passes to all areas of the dam including those areas under construction.

Several members who had been critical of the DWR were shut out of the areas on or about April 2, 2019 and denied press passes. Other media figures who were giving positive reports of the DWR were given exclusive access to all areas of the dam.
