New California State Urges FBI to Investigate Recent Surge in Key California Deaths

It is hard to believe the Founders were able to put in place a Constitution like the one that has governed the United States for nearly 250 years. Creating a framework of laws and functions for a free society is difficult enough. Making it work — and improving it over time and under pressure — is a different and greater achievement.

Challenges appeared immediately, even before the system was fully in place. Slavery existed in America and was not fully resolved at the Constitutional Convention. To hear people today casually condemn the Founders as simply “wrong” or “weak” for that decision is often shallow. Many of the most respected men of the era — including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson — held slaves. It is easy, from the safety of a later century, to pronounce moral judgment. The better explanation came from Abraham Lincoln, who observed that if he had been born the son of a slave owner he might well have held slaves himself. Lincoln focused on the institution, not on personal condemnation of every individual who lived inside it. That approach allowed him to build support even among some Southerners who disliked slavery but resisted being lectured.

Lincoln himself is frequently attacked out of context. Critics note that he used language and made statements that sound harsh by modern standards. They rarely mention that he entered a city under threat of mob violence, that he faced daily letters from widows and mothers condemning him for a war that cost more American lives than any other in our history, or that he was navigating the near-total destruction of the Union. He was smart, strong, and shrewd. He used every lawful tool available to save the Union.

The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order issued during the Civil War. Lincoln knew it was not enough to make freedom permanent. He needed a constitutional amendment. To secure the votes, he helped bring new states into the Union. Nevada was rushed to statehood in 1864; its constitution was transmitted by telegraph — the longest “email” of its era. This enabled its senators and representative their seats in Congress. West Virginia had already been formed in 1863 from the counties of Virginia that refused to join the Confederacy. Those two additional states, and the senators they supplied, helped give Lincoln the margin he needed. The people of West Virginia were courageous, stubborn, and clear-eyed: they preferred to form a new free state rather than remain part of a slave-holding South that had seceded.

These were not abstract political maneuvers. Real people risked and sometimes lost their lives so that new states could be born and the Union could be preserved on the side of freedom. Their descendants, and all who have lived under the Constitution since, inherit both the blessing and the responsibility.

America’s states were never meant to be permanent empires. They were designed as laboratories of self-government — compact enough for citizens to hold their leaders accountable, large enough to be viable, and equal enough in political weight that no single state could permanently dominate the Union. Today that design is broken in several places. A handful of massive states, dominated by a few dense urban cores, exercise outsized power while vast rural and suburban populations live under policies they reject and cannot change at the ballot box.

The solution is not revolution. It is the same constitutional tool Lincoln used: the creation of new states. The clearest and most advanced modern example is New California. The same model applies with equal force to Illinois, New York, and other oversized states where one metropolitan area dictates the destiny of millions who do not share its values or priorities.

Recently, a series of unusual deaths have occurred in California related to members of the New California movement.  The leadership is asking for the FBI to get involved.
