Amador County Sheriff works with ICE when dealing with criminal illegal aliens

The American Constitutional Rights Union has recognized Amador County Sheriff Gary Redman as the recipient of ACRU’s prestigious Defender Award. As the Globe reported in March, Sheriff Redman is the first sheriff in California to publicly state that he will cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement when dealing with criminal illegal aliens.
“I’m the first Sheriff to come out strong on a common sense public safety approach,” Sheriff Redman told the Globe in an interview. He said his policy isn’t an anti-immigration stance but rather designed as a public safety measure, to protect members of the community from violent offenders.
The ACRU honor “is awarded to law enforcement leaders who honor their constitutional oath to protect and to serve by working cooperatively with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to protect legal, law-abiding citizens from criminal illegal aliens. This honor is also awarded to law enforcement agencies who are prohibited by state law or policy from participating in the 287 (g) program yet are continuing to honor their constitutional oath.”
American Constitutional Rights Union is a non-partisan, non-profit public policy organization dedicated to defending all Americans’ constitutionally protected civil rights.
According to ICE: “The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 added Section 287(g) to the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) — authorizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency’s direction and oversight…The 287(g) Program enhances the safety and security of our nation’s communities by allowing ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) to partner with state and local law enforcement.”
California still is home to the largest illegal-alien population in the country, initially with 35 sanctuary cities, morphing into full state sanctuary, when in 2017, opportunistic California Democrats authored bills to counter the immigration executive orders to protect Americans, of then-President Donald J. Trump – in violation of Trump’s constitutional authority.
Then-Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De León (D-Los Angeles), the author of Senate Bill 54, claimed that “immigrants are valuable and essential members of the California community” and all attempts to enforce immigration laws create fear of the police among “immigrant community members” who fear “approaching police when they are victims of, and witnesses to, crimes.” De León deliberately conflated “immigrants” and “criminal illegal aliens.”
Unfortunately, California has notoriously been pushing criminal’s rights over victims and their families, Sheriff Redman said.
Redman told the Globe that if he has an illegal alien in his jail who is going to be released, “I am going to work with ICE.”
ICE will pick up the criminal illegal alien and deport him back to his country of origin.
“Sanctuary cities are trying to prevent federal officials from finding out about criminal alien murderers, rapists, and other violent criminals that these cities would apparently rather release than have picked up and deported so they cannot further victimize Americans.”
“It all comes down to public safety,” said Sheriff Redman, whose primary focus is providing that public safety to the people of Amador County.
“This law enforcement agency exemplifies what it means to be a true defender of the law,” said Col. Allen West, Executive Director of ACRU. “This award acknowledges their leadership and dedication to preserving American citizens’ rights to safety and security through their partnership with the 287(g) program. All law enforcement agencies should take note and follow this lead to fully embrace the authorization afforded to designated officers through these models. Well done.”
