Action News Now reporter Margot Rowe reports on the discussion that the Board of Supervisors had in regards to possibly hiring Chriss Street to be the next Chief Executive Officer of Shasta County.

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta County Board of Supervisors took no action on picking a new Chief Executive Officer for Shasta County Tuesday.

During a special Board of Supervisors meeting that was held Tuesday morning, supervisors discussed the candidacy of Chriss Street, who is being considered for the position of CEO of Shasta County.

There were several people who attended the meeting that held up signs against Street becoming the new CEO of Shasta County due to his high-ranking position within New California.

New California is a movement that is calling for the state of California to be split into two states, with Sacramento, the Bay Area, and Los Angeles making up one state and the rest of California making up the other state.

Jeff Gordor, a retired public defender from Shasta County, tells Action News Now that he is against the potential hiring of Street as the CEO of Shasta County.

“It’s an absolutely absurd platform, this New California declares their independence from California and Mr. Street is the second-ranking official and has been for five years, and I find it inconceivable that they’re hiring this man for this position.”

A background check was done on Street by the county. Street has five business days to respond to the background report before the Board of Supervisors can take action on his candidacy.

Supervisors say that they could take action at the next Board of Supervisors meeting or in a special Board of Supervisors meeting in the future.
