SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Gavin Newsom announced the COVID-19 State of Emergency will end on Feb. 28, 2023.

Newsom says the timing gives healthcare systems flexibility to handle any surges after the holidays. It will also provide the state and local partners time to the phaseout of the emergency.

“The State of Emergency was an effective and necessary tool that we utilized to protect our state, and we wouldn’t have gotten to this point without it,” Newsom said.

Newsom cited that 81 million vaccinations have been administered.
