CLEAR THE DECKS! SPILLWAY READY!

In the last 24 hours workers at the Oroville dam have going at a frantic pace to prepare for a second attempt to use the damaged main spillway. The lake level which has risen to just over 895ft shy of the top of the ogee weir at 900ft. At 901ft lake water overtops the weir and tumbles down the emergency spillway.

On May 31, 2019 the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) in a community notice announced they were “DWR is taking steps to prepare for potential use of the spillway”…..

Today those steps were taken as equipment, sandbags and scaffolding were removed from the deck. Next several inches of water from the damaged spillway gate began to cover the surface of the spillway in anticipation of the full spill. It is unknown at this time what amount of water will be released.
